Know How to Fill Out an Aircraft Registration Form

Have you long dreamed of buying an airplane of your own? Is it time to turn your ambitions of aviation into a breathtaking reality? If so, you will have your work cut out for you before you can take off for the friendly skies. First, of course, you will need to obtain a pilot’s license from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is done with a lot of coursework and training hours in the cockpit. Once you pass the necessary exams and are granted your license, you can then start thinking about what type of aircraft is right for you. With a nearly endless number of makes and models on the market, you should be able to find a plane that is well-suited to your needs. After you have found a seller and negotiated a price, you are nearly ready to clear the runway. You do need to complete some paperwork first, though, and by knowing how to fill out an aircraft registration form with the FAA, you can likely save yourself a bit of time.

The FAA is the federal agency that is tasked with regulating airspace in the United States. They carry out this duty in a few critical ways. As mentioned earlier, they issue pilot licenses to aspiring aviators. They also manage air traffic control across the country, ensuring that the skies are well-organized. Additionally, the FAA maintains a registry of all aircraft owned in the United States. As a responsible aircraft owner, you have a duty to register your aircraft in a timely manner, and you should also be prepared to submit regular renewals. Should you move to a new home, or if your plane changes ownership, you will also have to update the FAA so that they can maintain complete and accurate records.

How to Fill Out an Aircraft Registration Form Online

To register your aircraft for the first time, there will be a process to follow. First, you will need to locate Form AC 8050-1 – Aircraft Registration Application. This document will ask you for your name, address, and signature. You will also need to provide some details about your aircraft, such as its make, model, and serial number. The FAA will also ask you to provide proof of ownership, which can usually be done by submitting a bill of sale. Once you have registered your aircraft, that registration will be valid for a period of three years. Six months before your registration is set to expire, the FAA will send you a renewal notice containing a security code which you will need to place on your renewal request. You will receive another notice eight weeks before your registration’s expiration date.
