Two Ways to Deal With Your Aircraft Registration Expiration Date

Your aircraft’s documentation, you’ll notice, doesn’t last forever. As convenient as that would be, you will have to worry about your aircraft registration expiration every few years.

Aircraft Registration Expiration Date

When you get your aircraft registration in order, it will be important to remember that, like many official documents, it has an expiration date. This will specifically depend on the time period you chose at the time of initial registration. If you want to make sure that you can continue using your aircraft without interruption, you will want to go through the renewal process before the expiration date arrives. After all, you need to have your valid certificate of registration at hand while operating your aircraft in order to meet the Federal Aviation Administration’s guidelines. Let’s go over the renewal process so that you don’t have to worry about this.

Renewing Your Registration

So, first of all, how soon should you worry about renewing your registration? Figuring out the right timing can be tricky, for you don’t want to do it too early (since it might get rejected), nor too late (for you might not receive the renewal in time). Taking this into account, we recommend that you submit the renewal form no earlier than three months before the expiration date and no later than a month ahead of the date. This way, you can give yourself and the FAA enough time to process the renewal request and make sure that it is ready in time for you to not have to deal with waiting periods and grounded aircraft. If you think it’s already time for you to submit your renewal request, you will find and be able to submit the form on our platform.

Re-Register Your Aircraft

Keep in mind, though, that if you don’t submit the renewal form before the expiration date, you will no longer be able to renew your registration. Once the expiration date has passed, you will have to go through a different process altogether, which is known as the re-registration process. This form essentially serves as the reactivation process for registration that might have already expired. It’s fairly similar to the renewal process, save for the fact that it’s a little more expensive. Because of this, it’s always preferable to renew it beforehand. However, it doesn’t have to be the end of the world if you, for whatever reason, allow your registration to expire.

Submit FAA Aviation Registration

When it comes to filing any sort of aircraft registration form, you will have two options. You can file the form directly with the Federal Aviation Administration, but this is likely to take a long time, especially given the way in which you need to submit the forms, and that’s not to mention that you might have your forms returned for small mistakes. On the other hand, you can find and submit all the forms through our platform here at the National Aviation Center. For more information about how to submit registration forms, you can give us a call at 1-800-357-0893 or email us at info@nationalaviationcenter.us.
