Always Keep Your FAA Aircraft Registration Up to Date

As you probably know, few documents related to your aircraft are as important as your FAA aircraft registration. Getting this was probably one of the first things you did upon getting your aircraft, after all, so keeping it up to date and in the rule will be very important. Here are a few ways in which you can do so.

FAA Aircraft Registration

Your aircraft registration should always reflect accurate and up-to-date information, which means that should something related to it change, even if it’s something as simple as your home address, you will need to update it. This isn’t hard, however. It’s actually pretty simple. There is a specific form for this called the change of address form, which you can find here on our website. All you need to do is provide some information about yourself and the aircraft in question, including its current registration number, and provide the new address. It’s that easy. You don’t want to miss out on any information that’s mailed to your old address, so always stay on top of that. 

Re-Registering the Aircraft

Your aircraft registration should always be valid if you are intending to fly, which means that if it expires it is fair to assume your plane is grounded until you renew your registration. Notice that you can only renew your registration before it expires, so be sure to get that done ahead of time. Should it expire, you will have to go through the process of re-registering the aircraft, which is a slightly different process. The re-registration form is meant to restore registration that was left unattended without the need to start from scratch. This will also apply if your registration has remained expired for an extended period of time if, say, the aircraft went through lengthy repairs or was temporarily moved to a different country. 

Deleting the Registration

Another instance in which you will need to make changes to your FAA aircraft registration will be when you need to delete it. When will this be necessary? Well, maybe you are moving to a different country and your aircraft is coming with you, or perhaps the aircraft is no longer good to operate and you have no need for the registration going forward. Regardless of the circumstances, though, deleting the registration is fairly easy. All you need to do is submit the de-registration form and pay the accompanying fee. This will make sure your aircraft’s registration is deleted from the Federal Aviation Administration registry and that it is no longer associated with you.
